The Lost Princess
By Julie Theophanes and Marlene Olmsted
Summary:
This 45-minute musical based on George MacDonald’s classic fairy tale will be a hit with your group! A spoiled princess disappears from her birthday party … a spoiled shepherd’s daughter disappears from her humble home … and a mysterious old woman must teach them what it means to be a true princess before the mix-up can be set right! Your cast will sing their way through the adventure, from the opening party scene (“Rosamond’s Birthday”), to a scary forest of wolves (“Follow Me”), to a magical hall of living portraits (“The Way God Sees Me”), and more. The songs include Scripture, so the kids will be hiding God’s Word in their hearts as they pour their efforts into the show.
Casting:
This riser show is designed for 25-40 elementary through middle school performers. It offers 15 female roles (including Princess Rosamond and the Wise Woman), 4 male roles (including the King and Richard the Shepherd), and 14 more roles for either gender (including wolves and soldiers). You could double up some roles to make it work for a smaller group; or you can add more wolves, soldiers, princesses, etc. for a larger group. All cast members are part of the ensemble, singing in all the songs, so every cast member is involved in the whole show.
