My Neighbor
By Marlene Olmsted and Julie Theophanes
Summary:
My Neighbor teaches the Good Samaritan story - twice. Main character Bree is planning to help her young Sunday school students act out the parable at church. But then she gets an opportunity to be a Good Samaritan to a girl at school! This show contains Jesus' direct teaching from the Bible, includes modern day applications, and incorporates Bible verses into the songs to make Bible memory last for years to come. The songs are varied, from a simple, catchy Sunday school song ("Love the Lord Your God") to a tango-inspired comical lament ("I Should Have Planned Ahead") to the pop-style "I Want to Know More."
Casting:
This riser show is designed for 25-45 elementary through middle school performers, for groups with no or few male actors. As written, every character is female – but you are free to change the names to make some of the characters male (Sunday school kids, parent or teacher characters, and the high school bullies would be easily adjustable). The Sunday School kids and high school bully groups are also variable in size, so everyone can have a role to play. All cast members are part of the ensemble, singing in all the songs, so every cast member is involved in the whole show.
