Riches to Rags
By Marlene Olmsted
Summary:
Riches to Rags allows elementary through middle school performers to experience the Biblical story of Job – a man who lost everything, but still trusted God. Job may be the oldest story in the Bible, but it's as relevant as ever, as Job and his friends ponder why God allows difficult things in our lives. Riches to Rags presents a heartfelt expression of this story of God's sovereign ways and Job's faith in Him, from the toe-tapping opening number ("Job"), to the anthem where Job proclaims "I know that my Redeemer lives," to the soaring number where God finally replies to Job ("It is I"). As with all Silver Lamp shows, the songs include Scripture that the kids will remember for years to come.
Casting:
This riser show is designed for 25-40 elementary through middle school performers. As sometimes happens with Bible stories, there are only 2 specifically female roles (Job's wife and her friend); but most roles can be cast with either gender, whether Job's friends, businesspeople, cows, messengers, or a beggar. (At Shiloh Bible Camp, this entire show was performed by girls at Girls' Music Camp, and it worked beautifully.) You could double up some roles to make it work for a smaller group, or it can work for as many kids as will fit on your risers! All cast members are part of the ensemble, singing in all the songs, so every cast member is involved in the whole show.
